Brainiac

Brainiac first appeared in Action Comics #242 in July 1958, during the Silver Age. He was created by Otto Binder (writer) and Al Plastino (artist). Brainiac is one of Superman’s top villains, aside from Lex Luthor.

Brainiac’s best known crime is the shrinking of the city Kandor before planet Krypton was destroyed. The shrunken city is on his spaceship, among a collection of various other cities and planets.

As you can see in the following video clip, Brainiac has changed considerably in the past 53 years:

Brainiac is known by different names, Vril Dox among them. He is also known as Milton Fine, whose body his consciousness inhabits when he first reaches Earth (post-crisis). Brainiac made a big transition from humanoid to a robotic supervillain with “twelfth-level-intelligence” since his 1958 debut in Action Comics.

Brainiac has many origin stories, but most begin with him coming from Colu until recently. He is now depicted as originating from Krypton. The big changes came in the pre-crisis to post-crisis transition.
